Hudson Daybreak Rotary
August 3, 2020

From our President

It's coming...

Hudson Daybreak Rotarians are known for doing good in the community and the world. Some of our members are a bit competitive, too. We will now be combining the two to make things happen. Make sure you tune in (virtually or live) to our next two meetings when we announce our teams and how the competition will work.

8/5 - Find out your team captain and your teammates
8/12 - Learn about the competition and how you can make a difference

In Our Community

Christian Community Homes
CCH is seeking donations of material to make cloth isolation gowns. They hope to receive 100 donations of four continuous yards of cotton material. Please contact Debi Mager if you are able to help! debi.mager@cchhudson.org
or 715.386.4536

CASA of Western Wisconsin
The new CASA of Western Wisconsin – St. Croix County - is looking for potential board members to serve on the steering committee and/or 501(c) (3) board. Eventually, we will need CASA volunteers also. CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates and they are trained volunteers appointed by a judge to advocate for a child who is in the child welfare system. In 2019, more than 7,000 Wisconsin children were eligible for a CASA. Only 1,000 children were served because 60 of Wisconsin’s 72 counties do not have a CASA program. Thanks to St. Croix County, that is now down to 59. For further information please contact Tim Heckmann at timothy.heckmann@wicourts.gov.

YMCA in Hudson, WI
Each day (M-F) from now until September 4th YMCA will be providing free lunches and ready to heat meals at the Hudson branch starting at noon.  Chris Kost is looking for volunteers to pick up these meals daily at the Woodbury Y at 10:10am and then also volunteers who would be willing to hand out the meals at the YMCA in Hudson M-F from 12-2.  Please sign up to help here

Hudson Hospital Foundation Al Hein Golf Tournament
The Hudson Hospital Foundation will host their golf event on August 17th at White Eagle Golf Club. Proceeds will benefit behavioral health initiatives in the community and at Hudson Hospital & Clinic. Learn more and register here

Call for Submissions
Many of us are involved with other organizations benefiting our community. Please feel free to send information about your connection to these organizations that your fellow Rotarians might find helpful.  Information to include in the In our Community section can be sent to tessa.m.boury@hudsonhospital.org

Shout Out

Annette Cook, the golf committee, and the volunteers at the golf tournament did a GREAT job hosting a safe and fun event, especially since we're in the midst of a pandemic. The players had a wonderful time and were so generous in their support of Rotary. Shout out to Mother Nature for perfect game day weather too.

Please let Ruth Petermann or Michel Tigan know if you want to recognize a Rotary member for going above and beyond in their work as a Rotarian.

Rotary Events

Grace Place is one of the on-going service projects of Daybreak Rotary.  We provide a meal every other month on the second Thursday of the month.  The next meal  will be delivered Aug 13th.

Grace Place is in New Richmond and offers shelter and financial assistance to homeless families and individuals in the St. Croix River Valley. They can serve up to 60 people in the shelter.

In recent years the meals have been prepared by the kitchen staff at the YMCA Camp. Currently the camp kitchen is not open.

Due to COVID regulations set up by the Salvation Army that owns Grace Place, we cannot cook a meal in the kitchen or set up a meal in the cafeteria.  However, we CAN send a meal for the residents to prepare. We leave the meal at the front door of Grace Place at a prearranged time.

Thank you to the Rotarians that made a contribution to buy this meal of Spaghetti and meatballs, salad, french bread and brownies. I will be calling on others to help in October.

Right now the Grace Place Committee has one member, Linda Robertson. She is in need of additional drivers and meal planners. Please contact her if you want to participate (lindainhudson@gmail.com)
