Big Brothers Big Sisters Northwestern Wisconsin - Thank You to contributing Rotarians!
While the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwestern Wisconsin group couldn’t conduct their normal “Bowl for Kids’ Sake” events around the communities from Eau Claire to Hudson due to the gathering restrictions from the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic, the group adapted and held virtual events because of the needs with children which are greater than ever at this time.
Hudson Daybreak Rotarian, John Knutson, who founded the bowling fundraising event in 1981 in Eau Claire, along with his “Little Brother”, Doug Weaver, had another successful year raising money to help the organization not only survive, but thrive! According to Knutson, “In a year with the Coronavirus, and then the events and social unrest following the George Floyd incident, I didn’t think there was any way I would be able to collect anything close to what I have usually raised for the organization, as I thought people would be extremely conservative with their finances and giving. Fortunately, I underestimated the generosity and resolve of my family, friends, and the general public – who gave more than they ever have before. With the help of many, many Hudson and Hudson Daybreak Rotarians, I was able to raise $10,000 this year, which is more than I’ve ever raised before in a single year. So I want to personally thank all of you who made a contribution. There is nothing better than to be with a child when a match support specialist from BBBS calls them and says ‘Hey, great news…we found you a big brother or big sister today!” which changes both lives forever! Thanks again for your financial support to a great youth mentorship organization.”
